What is that smell?

Eeeeeew! What is that smell? Every time I got into my car this week I encountered a whiff of an unpleasant stench. At first I was thinking that it was the carpet. “Maybe they had been wet and now were moldy”, I thought. When I couldn’t stand it anymore I began to take a deeper look into the back of my car. There unnoticed and untouched was the blue backpack. I had used it for a school field trip before spring break. That was over a month ago! The disgusting odor grew stronger as I opened the backpack. Deep inside was the mysterious culprit. Now green and very ripe was a small plastic bag that once contained a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. This little package was holding a powerful fragrance that permeated my car.

It made me think of the little sins, the hidden ones that are swept under the carpet. When they are left alone and untouched they become very stinky!

Scripture tells us that what is hidden will come to light!

He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men's hearts. I Corinthians 4:5

You will be found out by your stinkyness!

Our sins that we try to hide have a smell of their own. It is the unpleasant odor of;

Disobedience
Pride
Selfishness
Lying
Anger
Jealousy
Envy
Addiction
and worry.

Praise God that He cleans us up and makes us whiter than snow! Psalm 51:7

Father thank you for knowing all about me and loving me anyway! I know my sins are disgusting to you. Forgive me for trying to hide my sins from you. Help me to be honest with you. Make me whiter than snow.
