First blessing

We received our first gift today. When we arrived in Bogota it was necessary to rebook our luggage. At first the gate agent informed us that we would need to repay for our 5 extra bags. When we got ready to pay she said, "it's ok you don't have to pay anything!! God is so good!!

We know that He will supply all of our needs! Philippians 4:19

We are walking and ministering in this truth!

Can't wait to share with you more!!

Landed

We are in Colombia!!!!

Colombia Bound!!

Today I leave with a group to travel to Colombia.  Please join us in prayer for the trip. You can follow our experiences here.

Let Go of the Past

This is the 2nd part of a series about letting go of your past. You may want to go back and read, I am Free before reading this post.

After identifying the area that has kept you stuck and examining what God says about being free, the next step is often a rather difficult one.

2. Let Go of the Past
There is a warning in dwelling in the past

As soon as they had brought them out, one of them said, “Flee for your lives! Don’t look back, and don’t stop anywhere in the plain! Flee to the mountains or you will be swept away!” Genesis 19:17

But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt. Genesis 19:26

When you have been surrounded for so long by the weight of past chains it can be difficult to fully let go.

These verses in Genesis give us some life changing pointers

  • Flee-Remove yourself from situations, people and things that are part of the past chains, if you are not strong enough to resist them.
  • Don't look back-Looking back says that you still are attached to the past. The future promises so much for you. Remember Lot's wife!
  • Don't stop -Letting go is an active process! Keep going.

Practice these things or you will be swept away! Chained up once more!

It's time to Let go!
Honestly ask yourself if the memories of your past mistakes or past hurts are hindering you from moving forward?  Are they keeping you from experiencing joy, trust and love?

How long will you allow the past to haunt you? Stop hanging onto the chains!

In trying to let go of my past I found that often I would give it to God and then I would pick it back up and try to fix it myself. A friend suggested that I try placing my hands palms down and asking God to take it from me. The hard part is not quickly closing my hands and grasping at the very things that I just gave to God.

Try this yourself while praying these verses.

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:18

As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
I John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9

For more info on what God promises if we dwell with Him Read Psalm 91.

Father, every day it is a struggle for me to let go of the past. Everyday I struggle to give control to you to lead and to guide me. With hand extended palms down I give to you those memories, fears and struggles. Please take them and give to me the courage to let go and hold onto your promises instead.

Part of letting go is letting go of the bitterness! Bitterness vs forgiveness!

To be continued!

I am Free

Many of us understand what bondage feels like. We feel like chains may be wrapped around multiple times constricting us with each action we make. I, personally, want to break free from the chains, and to live a life filled with God’s grace.

Our battlegrounds may be different but the thing we have in common is the weighty feeling of being held hostage within our own chains.
Do you think about how you will ever get away from these chains? from your past, from the things that have held you back?

My story
In previous posts I shared about my own struggle to be healed from sexual abuse. Read the story here. Throughout this journey,  I felt as if my past were suffocating me.   It kept me from moving forward.

Even after I had faced my past, looked at the areas that needed to be healed, gave it to God and forgiven the man who had hurt me, every once in a while, the chain would wrap itself around my thoughts once again. My need to be in control at all times is a direct result of this chain! If I am in control then no one can hurt me, take advantage of me ever again. This is a biggy in my life and it was effecting my relationship with my husband, my children and with God. "Would this ever be gone?", I often thought.
The thing about getting past your past is realizing that it will keep resurfacing until you are able to finally put it to death!

Your past may be
disappointment,
divorce,
abuse,
deep hurts,
regrets of sin,
 death,
abandonment
pain.

We all have something that just keeps holding on. It is a chain that drags us down. The chains of the past! It makes me think of Scrooge. Ghosts of Christmas past! They all played a role in keeping him stuck. A prisoner.

Praise God that there is freedom!

Before we can talk about moving forward it is important to look at what has chained us down.

Take a moment and answer this question.

I feel chained down by ___________________________________________

To move forward it is important to do two things. Identify the chain and examine what God's word says.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1

His desire for us is that we would live in freedom. Today you can be free of whatever has enslaved you. You do not have to live in your past any longer!

    1. I am Free!

I will walk about in Freedom,                                      Psalm 119:45
Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is Freedom.         II Corinthians 3:17
You have Freed me from my chains.                                 Psalm 116:16

God promises us freedom and more in Isaiah 61:1  Take some time and look at His many promises!
You are free even if you don’t feel it! You are free!
Father, thank you for declaring us free! Show us what your freedom looks and feels like. We are grateful children.

Part 2 will be coming soon

Paleo Lemon Chicken

Every once in a while I have a craving for food that I know isn't good for me, yet I still long for the flavors from long ago! One of these is a lemon chicken dish from P.F. Changs.

Over a year ago I began eating a Paleo diet. and I have never felt better! When the craving hit I knew that I needed to spring into action and create a version of Lemon chicken that met my Paleo criteria.

I found a great recipe at Paleo diet lifestyle and tweaked it just a bit.

Lemon chicken recipe

Ingredients
1/4 cup butter (or ghee), tallow, coconut oil or poultry fat;
4 Chicken breasts sliced
2 cups onions, sliced thin;
20 gloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup lemon juice;
2 extra lemons, thickly sliced (remove seeds with the tip of a knife);
1 1/2 cups chicken stock;
1 tsp basil
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste;

Preheat your oven to 350 F.
  • Melt the first  1/4 cup fat in a large and hot pan and brown the chicken pieces on all sides. It will take about 6 minutes total. Set the chicken aside.
  • Cook the onions until soft, about 3 minutes, and make sure to scrape all the delicious chicken bits off the pan while doing so.
  • Add the garlic and cook for about a minute, until fragrant. You can season with salt and pepper at this point.
  • Add the chicken stock, basil and lemon juice and return the chicken to the pan.
  • Bring to a simmer and put the pan, covered, in the hot oven for about 20 minutes.
  • Remove the lid, add the lemon slices and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes uncovered.
Serve the chicken with the garlic and lemon sauce as well as with some of the lemon slices.
Honestly this is an amazing recipe!  Love, Love, Love it!

It reminds me that nothing tastes as good as something that is carefully prepared with fresh ingredients.

Just like how God has carefully planned and prepared a perfect place for us that we will enjoy!

My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? John 14:2
