More than Bowling!

This week our couple's small group went bowling. It has been quite a while since I have walked through the doors of a bowling establishment.                              "How hard can it be, Wii bowling is pretty easy" I told myself.

Upon entering there is an overwhelming greasy fragrance that greets you with the orchestra of pins crashing and balls rolling down the lanes.

A few things that I know about bowling

  • Bowling shoes are cool! I have loved them forever.
  • It is harder than it looks
  • Strikes are good, gutter balls are bad!
  • Warning! Don't go past the foul line it is slippery and you may fall.
  • There are arrows on the lane that help direct you.
  • Bowling balls are heavy!
  • It takes practice!
We had fun even though I scored in the "what are you doing here?" category. The second time my score was pretty close to my age.
Laughing and talking all the way through, I was reminded that it is good to be together!  God did not make us to be alone!  He gave us friends to help and encourage us!
How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! Psalm 133

During the last game of bowling we decided to make up the manner in which you could bowl.

Our group bowled
  • Lying down face forward
  • Non dominant hand
  • Grasping the ball
  • Throwing under your partner's legs
  • Backwards
  • Sitting on the knee of you partner
Scanning the room, I am sure that the more focused bowlers couldn't wait till we left! Laughing and having fun together made me smile.
A cheerful heart is good medicine. Proverbs 17

Bowling reminded me that I need others to encourage and spur me on! It was only bowling, but doing it together is the best part!

let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25

Father, thank you that you created us for community! I love these dear friends and need them in my life! Help me to remember that I am not alone!
