Where's my coffee?

When I get up in the morning one of the first things I look for is piping hot, strong black coffee! A good cup of it is such a wonderful gift each morning.

After pouring a cup, I begin my morning make-up routine while sipping away at this incredible nectar! Yes I am slightly addicted to it!

On this morning, forgetting that I had moved my coffee, I turned around to grab my cup and it was gone. Somewhat confused by this, I walked into the kitchen looking for my cup, not there! Retracing my steps also had a negative result. The getting ready clock was running out, so I left for work without finishing or even finding my coffee.

That is until yesterday!

I stood there laughing at myself because as I opened the cabinet in my bathroom it revealed the hidden location of one, cup of coffee.

God whispered to me in the midst of my laughing at myself,

"If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me." Jeremiah 29:13 NLT

Father, help me to desire you more than anything. Thank you for the reminder to seek you and the promise that I will find you when my whole heart is in it.

The coffee debacle

I love coffee!  The aroma of the fresh ground beans just makes me happy! It is in fact the first thing I think of in the morning! In addition to loving my coffee, I expect several things from my it.
  • It must be hot! Lukewarm or reheated is a no no!
  • The taste I prefer is bold and dark, but not bitter.
  • I drink it black, nothing added.
  • It must provide me with the necessary caffeine jolt.

Each morning this wonderful, delightful, caffeine filled beverage is made by my sweet husband!

Until..........

Three days ago, I started having a slight headache.  I attributed it to the summer, exercising more, dehydration, tiredness etc.  Never in my wildest dreams did I think that there was a mutiny underfoot! I like to call it the great coffee debacle!

de·ba·cle/diˈbakəl/
Noun: A sudden and ignominious failure; a fiasco.

My husband decided that we should switch to half decaf and half regular coffee. Something to do with too much caffeine isn't good for you! I had wondered why he was asking how the coffee was?  I never suspected that I was being under-dosed!  I was beginning to think that there was something wrong with me.

The same is true for me when I do not spend time with the Lord.  Something is not right!  I feel under-dosed! When I am in His presence there is a certain filling that happens, a peace that comes, a joy that is revealed. I find answers and wisdom from His word.  I have tried the half God and half world thing.
Doesn't work so well for me.  Life is not the same without Him!

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? Psalm 42 1-2

Father, thank you for the coffee debacle! It reminded me to spend time with you! Help me to crave you more than coffee! I want to think of you first when I awake!  Your coffee addicted daughter, Jann.
