Bread of Life

When I think about bread I think about the aroma of bread baking in the oven.  The smell fills me with joy! Even though I have gone gluten free, I love the fragrance that fresh bread brings. There is something so cozy and comforting about it. 

You know what I am talking about, the bread smell fills all of your nasal cavities and you just want some of it! When you eat it it fills us up and bread can be used to clean up the plate by sopping up all of the juices.

Everywhere that I have travelled to around the world has some form of bread. Pan, tortillas, naan, chapati, pita, whole wheat, french. Everyone understands bread.  It is a staple of the the world.

In John 6:48 after Jesus had fed over 5000 people He's declares, "I am the bread of life." People were so excited to receive this food that would satisfy them, but he was talking about so much more than food.

We are all born with a hunger for God.  Jesus is the only one who can give us the bread that will satisfy our deepest longings.

 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” John 6:51

The bread of life-Jesus.  He's says that He alone will satisfy us.

There is a great weight watchers commercial out right now that shows how people eat snacks during different times of their life.  

Lonely=snack

Happy=snack

Sad=snack

Excited=snack

Bored=snack

etc=snack

It is so true! We have this need to be filled, satiated, satisfied.  The issue is that we are looking for satisfaction in all the wrong places! There is nothing that satisfies like Jesus!

He fills the deepest of longings, the saddest of hearts, the most disappointed expectations.  It is Jesus who is our bread, who cleans up our messes.  It is His fragrance that I want to be. When we walk into a room I want people to notice the aroma of Christ and want it. The Bread of Life.

Prayer

Oh satisfier of our souls, the Bread of Life, we invite you to fill us up, in fact fill us up to overflowing.  Fill us up with your goodness, your wholeness, your satisfying love.  May we not yearn for more than you! What a precious gift you are! Amen
