Can I change....?

I love getting my hair done! From the warm greeting that my stylist gives me to the finished product of well sculpted and perfectly colored hair, I enjoy the entire process! This time in the salon is pure indulgence, one that feeds my pampering need.

During this visit, a woman with dark brown hair came into the salon. Her desire was to change her hair color to platinum blonde. (I was ease dropping or maybe she was talking loudly!) I was struck by her strong desire that both she and I have to be something different than what we naturally are.

I admit freely that I am not content with the hair color that grows out of my head. Growing up, my hair was light blonde and now, well let's just say it is slightly brown.

I much prefer the bright hues of blonde. Is that wrong? Am I not being content with the way I was created? Am I the clay telling the potter to re-create me?

Why do we want things that we don't have?

People with curly hair want straight hair and vice versa.

  • When things start to get old we buy something new.
  • When something bigger and better is created, we often toss aside things for the newest and greatest.
  • When we see that someone has _____ we want it too!
Why is it so hard to be content? Learning to be content continues to be a process for me. I want to be able to live contently in God's promises, that He knows my needs and will supply all of them. It's the wants that I seem to confuse with the needs!

And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 NLT

Lord I confess that I have confused needs and wants. Help me to be satisfied with everything that you have given me. Teach me to see the difference and to trust you to supply my every need.

Paleo Diet

I am starting a new food focus. It is called the Paleo diet. I am just learning about it but what I have gleaned so far comes from this web site.

Paleo Basic facts

  • Eat Fresh unprocessed food!
  • fruits
  • vegetables
  • meat
  • some nuts
  • some oils
  • Do not eat dairy
  • Do not eat grains

I know what you are thinking, no Greek yogurt? No cheese? No quinoa? My thoughts exactly. Leaving those friends for a while will be tough but, I love the idea of eating fresh, uncompromised food. I'll let you know how it goes. It's kinda of like going back to the basics!

Once a week I will be sharing what worked and what didn't!

Tonight, the first night of this endeavor, I made a recipe that my daughter Lissa shared with me.
Spicy orange chicken and jalapeno cauliflower rice.

I was skeptical particularly about the cauliflower rice. When I read it in the recipe,

I said, "what is that" out loud! You actually grate the cauliflower and then brown it with onions and garlic.

The recipe was a success. It turned out well and I will make it again.

The thing I love about this new food focus is that the food I prepare is to be in its purest form. It reminds me that we as Christians are to be to be striving to be blameless and pure.

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God. Philippians 1:9-11

Say Yes to the Dress!

One of my favorite guilty pleasures is watching Say Yes to the Dress.  As if the original wasn't enough, now there is also the Atlanta series. It feeds the girly side of me. Watching the brides try on all of those dresses is good TV! I especially enjoy the moment when the bride declares, "This is the dress!"

Friday night, I was home alone and enjoying my dress fix when a bride shared about her fiance. He was just diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease and their wedding date was moved up.  The bride tried on several dresses searching for the perfect, beachy, bohemian creation, all within her bridal budget of $1000.00. I have to admit, I was cheering her on. When it looked like no dress would satisfy her dreams she slipped into the flowey designed bridal gown. Her face lit up with pure joy! I smiled right along with her! The tension built however, when her mother and future mother- in-law did not like the dress. "honestly, why do people rain on others parade?

Like a fairy Godmother, the store's manager stepped in and completed the look with a coordinating veil. Soon everyone was smiling and tears of joy were falling.

If that wasn't enough, this dress drama became more intense. The dress was double the price of the bride's budget! She stood there in front of her family, her perfect dress now seemed out of reach and her tears changed from joy to horror!
At that moment, the manager revealed something truly amazing, "This dress is my gift to you!"
As the bride wept, so did I! What an amazing gift.

We too have been given an amazing gift of love and forgiveness.
It has been given to us by a Gracious and giving God. Romans 5:8
It it out of reach for us on our own. Ephesians 2:8-9
It is truly an indescribable gift.

Father, thank you!

It is finished!

This is what Jesus did for us!

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. I Peter 3:18

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:1-2

He cancelled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. Colossians 2:14

This is so good!
He cancelled -blotted out - wiped away the charges against us!
Nailing it to His cross.

Wiped out-means to erase, obliterate.

God wipes out the list of charges against us
God not only forgives our sin but he blots out the record of it. Not only is the handwriting erased but the document itself is removed.

The use of "handwriting refers to an IOU.
As if you sat down and made a list of all of your sins.
Jesus comes and clears is all away!

If God wiped out the charges against you, Why do you keep dwelling on them? He says that He has forgotten them!

There's more!

Picture with me- Jesus Hanging on the cross-The sign hanging above Him, tells of His crime-(King of the Jews)

1. The sign was a list of crimes committed that required payment.

2.  When the crimes were paid for, the sign was stamped with the word "tetelestai", meaning paid in full,
 it is finished.

When the full debt for our sin was paid, Jesus simply gave up His spirit with a single word that fell from His lips:  Tetelestai"
  It is finished.”
The debt was cancelled.
(Colossians 2:13-14)

Here is the truth of who you are!
You are loved and forgiven! You are sons and daughters of the King! When God looks at you He sees Jesus!

The price has been paid!
Live in this truth!

Beyond Sin

To move beyond Sin we must first look at ourselves

1. All of us have sinned! There is no one righteous! No not one! Romans 3

Scripture is clear that because of our sin, missing the mark that God set for us, by not following His commands, not loving the way we should, that we have sinned. I am a sinner and so are you!

2. The punishment for sin is separation from God! He is holy and cannot be around sin.

3. That is why He sent Jesus! To become the bridge- the connector, the protector, the cleaner- Because of Him we have forgiveness of sins.

Praise God that He has wiped the slate clean!

If you are a Christian He has told us that:

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9

Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Isaiah 1:18

For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.  Hebrews 8:12

In Him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace. Ephesians 1:17

Because of Jesus there is forgiveness!

This is the good news!

We are forgiven!
We don’t deserve it!
But we are forgiven!

Father, thank you for your unbelievable gift of forgiveness!
Your grace is amazing.

Royal Re-tellers

Kindergarten students are learning how to re-tell a story.  This ability helps children to attend to what has been read.  As children learn to gather information and organize their thoughts about a story, they become more adept at re-telling.   In kindergarten students learn about the setting, the characters, and putting the events of the story in a logical, sequential order.  To make story retelling fun and a successful exercise use predictable , simple stories like;
  • Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do You See?
  • The Three Little Bears
  • The Gingerbread Boy
  • The Three Little Pig
  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar
  • The Mitten
This week we were Royal Re-tellers as we re-told the significant events of a story while wearing a beautiful crown. Feel free to make your own!
As Christians we too are Royal re-tellers!
We have been given the responsibility to keep re-telling the life giving story of redemption, love and forgiveness. Each day we see glimpses of the Savior hard at work to save a hurting, dying world.

Don't miss the opportunity to share the story of how Jesus has saved and redeemed you.

Who will you share with today?

Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare. Psalm 40:5

Who are you Lord?

While praying one day a Woman asked, "Who are you, Lord?"
He answered, "I am".
"But who is I Am?", she said.

And He replied-

"I am Love, I am Peace,
I am Grace, I am Joy.
I am the Way, Truth, and the Light.
I am the Comforter,
I am Strength, I am Safety,
I am Shelter, I am Power, I am the Creator,
I am the Beginning and the End,
I am the Most High"

The woman with tears in her eyes looked
toward Heaven and said,
"Now I understand.
But Lord, who am I?"

Then God tenderly wiped the tears
from her eyes and whispered,
"You are Mine!"

Step workout

I started a new workout routine by joining a step class. Eager to begin what I fondly remember as a good cardio workout, I arrived early, grabbed a step and risers and then promptly set it up.  A friend was joining me and I was excited!

15 years ago I was a step fanatic and was sure that this was going to be another terrific class. It is amazing however, how much we forget when we remember the past!

The class began with the perky little instructor shouting, "Cmon on!" The beginning steps were easy, up right, up left, grapevine. I remembered those just fine, unfortunately everything after that was a work in process! Each time the instructor directed us to another step move I was carefully watching and then trying to mimic her. Either my age or co-ordination was working against me because my steps were 2 to 3 steps behind her direction.

"C'mon, don't give up- jump shot, repeat quads, v step, circle, half circle turn etc. etc. etc! "  Trying my best I did what I could. I felt rather stupid as others in class seemed to anticipate her every direction.  I have so much to learn!

The instructor went over the routine several times. She must have seen my uncoordinated steps, or the frantic look on my red face, or the fact that I was sweating from every part of my body!
At one point I just stood there doing the simple right and left step up, hoping that I could jump in again and resume the routine.
I have returned and completed my 2nd class and I have to say it was somewhat easier. For part of the class, I was actually in step with the class! Feeling confident that I was learning the steps I felt better! Of course the instructor threw in some new moves, so I was lost again!

I am determined to learn these moves, anticipate the instructors moves and ultimately not fall off my step!

Learning anything new takes time and practice!

This class reminded me of my relationship with Jesus!
  • He is the instructor. Psalm 32:8
  • I must listen for his voice, leading and guiding me. John 10:27
  • He is always going to go before me and show me the way! Isaiah 52:12
  • I must watch Him to follow His every move. Ezekiel 20:19
  • It will take practice to understand the steps that I must take. 2 Peter 3:18
  • Sometimes I will feel foolish! I Corinthians 1:27

The M word!

Recently, Joey a first grade little boy came running up to his teacher complaining about another little boy in the class. Confidently he retold his story of being called the "M" word!

The teacher was confused as to what possible word it could be. Standing there she could not come up with any inappropriate words that began with the letter M. "What did he call you Joey?" Agitated, Joey blurted out,
"He called me stupid!"

Joey displayed a misguided confidence in his understanding of the alphabet!
He was confident in his wrongness!

As adults this can become our rightness disease!

I must admit I too have a hard time admitting that I am wrong. Because of this my family has instituted a wrongness policy in our home. If someone insists that they are right only to find out that they are wrong, they must humbly confess that,
"I was wrong, you were right, I'm sorry!"
Not only is this humbling, but it can be a form of comic relief! We tend to take ourselves way to seriously!

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Philippians 2:1-4

Slip sliding away!

Early this Saturday, it was frigid cold in Michigan. The car's temperature gauge displayed -3 degrees.  That kind of cold makes everything icy and increases ones chance of ending up in a ditch! This poor unfortunate soul was one of many who lost control, when their car hit an icy patch.

Some drivers are not as careful as others. This was evident today when in a matter of seconds after a car sped by us, that we watched in awe as it spun out of control across the road.  The old white car circled and then slid right through the fence into the field.

Sliding happens to the best of us, but there are things that wise drivers do to stay on the road.

To drive safely on icy roads, the Weather Channel suggests:
  • Decrease your speed and leave yourself plenty of room to stop. You should allow at least three times more space than usual between you and the car in front of you.
  • Brake gently to avoid skidding. If your wheels start to lock up, ease off the brake.
  • Turn on your lights to increase your visibility to other motorists.
  • Keep your lights and windshield clean.
  • Use low gears to keep traction, especially on hills.
  • Be especially careful on bridges, overpasses and infrequently traveled roads, which will freeze first. Even at temperatures above freezing, if the conditions are wet, you might encounter ice in shady areas or on exposed roadways like bridges.
  • Don't assume your vehicle can handle all conditions. Even four-wheel and front-wheel drive vehicles can encounter trouble on winter roads
As Christians we are faced every day with dangerous situations and temptations! We must be wise in the way that we handle these icy patches in our lives or we will also find ourselves sliding into situations that we don't want to be in!
No one falls into sin, it is a step by step slide that ends up with some hefty consequences!

So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!  No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. I Corinthians 10:12-13

Caramel Apple Cheesecake Bars with Streusel Topping

I know! They look incredible and every delicious bite leaves a beautiful memory in your mouth! Is it wrong to have these feelings about food?

After looking at the recipe and the ingredients, I modified the original Paula Dean recipe and used crushed cinnamon graham crackers instead of flour for the crust and reduced the butter to 1 stick, then added 1/3 light cream cheese for the filling and reduced the brown sugar and flour to only a 1/2 cup each for the topping. I also changed the recipe to be made into individual muffin tins.

What a tasty Superbowl dessert!

Here is how they were made:
Directions-

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Line muffin tray with papers
  • Begin the layering process
1. Press crust mixture evenly into the bottom of each tin. Bake for 8-10   minutes until lightly brown.

2. Pour cheesecake filling on top of warm crust.

3. Spoon apple mixture on top.

4. Sprinkle evenly with Streusel topping.

5. Bake 20 minutes, or until filling is set.

6, Drizzle with caramel topping.

7. Enjoy! (Caution It is difficult to eat only one).

For the complete recipe check out Paula's original.
This reminded me that God has a plan!
Each day that passes
Trials that come
Rocky times
Greatest joys
Deepest despair
Uncomfortable situations
Laughter and tears
He takes a look at the ingredients of our lives and He uses it all to complete His recipe for your life. As every moment is layered together your life becomes a sweet, testimony for Him.
The next time you are in the midst of something difficult:
Ask God how He wants to use it to further His kingdom.
Ask Him what you may learn from it.
Ask Him to show you His plan.

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies?
Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.

Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
Luke 12:6-7

He is such a Mole!

The snow melted this week and little dirt mounds have appeared everywhere. Moles! I had never noticed them in the snow, but they have been there, under the surface all along.

As these pests burrow lawns, they create molehills, which results in dying lawns and plant damage 5:8. The reason that they burrow is to find food.  Earthworms are their favorite.  Mole tunnels are a type of worm trap. When the mole senses that a worm has fallen into it's path, a quick dash begins to run and capture it's prey. Here is a cool fact. If they are not hungry at the moment, moles can paralyze their prey for a snack later on!

Satan, is like a mole!
  • He burrows beneath the surface, trying to desperately undermine our foundation.
  • At any moment he will poke up his nasty little head
  • If we are to stumble and fall he is quickly there to snatch us up, trying to devour us.
  • If he can't get us at the very moment we have fallen, he will try to paralyze us in fear, and remind us later on that we have fallen!
We are warned about the schemes of the devil.

God tells us that Satan is our enemy
  • the devil/Satan means the slanderer, our adversary and our accuser.   Job 1:6-12, Rev. 12: 9-10
  • He is called a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. I Peter 5:8
What can we do when we feel like a trapped earthworm?
  • Prepare for the battle. Ephesians 6
  • Resist the devil and he will flee from you.  James 4:7
  • Then draw near to God-The closer you are to God the harder it will be for Satan to entrap you!  James 4:8
  • How to resist him "stand firm in the faith I Peter 5:9

Ultimately we must remember that God has complete

power, not Satan!

Father, whatever it is that is threatening us, entrapping us, undermining our foundation we ask that you would conquer! Strengthen us through your word. Open our eyes to see the weaknesses in our faith and the power to overcome! Jann

Golden Earring

Guest Blog

Since age 4, The Boy has asked for a piercing in his ear, and since age 4, I’ve said, “Sorry. No.” To be perfectly honest, I didn’t really care one way or another if my son wore an earring or not, but I knew that his military academy graduate father did, and out of respect for The Colonel I denied the requests for an earring without wavering. Regardless of my unyielding position, this exchange between my son and me took place every time we I passed the Gold Kiosk. At age 8, he surprised me as he broke character and went off-script after we passed the kiosk. Instead of asking if he could destroy a perfectly good ear that I had worked 9 months to make, he asked to borrow my phone. Assuming that he wanted it to play Tetris, I handed it over.

Tactical Error by Mom.

He called his father. At the time, Dad was an Air Force orthopedic surgeon, who happened to be, on this particular occasion, knee deep in an elbow replacement, or elbow deep in a complete knee replacement- (I’m not sure which anymore) in his operating room, which was packed with his team. The Colonel’s interns, residents, o.r. technicians and nurses all knew my cell number, and though it was rare that I would call him on a surgery day, if a call did come through from my phone, one of them would scrub out, turn down the Classic Rock that suppressed the sound of power tools, push “talk” and hold the phone up to his ear while everyone in the room listened for the next crazy story I might be calling about.  (They think I’m insane. I don’t know how they came to that conclusion. <grin>)

Instead, this time here was a little voice dripping with hope and awesome on the other end.

“Hi Dad. It’s me. How are you? Are you cutting someone’s guts open?” (About this time, back at the mall, I nearly stroke out right there between the Gold Kiosk and The Gap and frantically start looking for one of those defibrillator things that hang on a wall to re-start my failing heart...)

“It’s Friday. The Good Doctor is most certainly in surgery.  He knows this.”, I tell myself.  I realize this is a calculated ploy. He’s calling his father because he knows it’s too difficult to debate with an 8–year old in the middle of surgery.

”Uh, I’m at the mall and I’m standing next to the Gold Kiosk. Do you care if I get my ear pierced? I don’t think Mom minds.” I swear I gave birth to Calvin from Bill Waterson’s comic, Calvin and Hobbes.

“Son, may I please speak with your Mother?”

Kill me!

That was the last time I handed either one of my kids my phone without asking, “Who are we calling?”

Fast forward 9 years of Gold Kiosk drive-by’s at the mall. The 7 year old is now 16 and he is growing into a seasoned sailor and diver with 15 ocean voyages under his belt. His captain, mentor and most reliable friend is a 6’5”, burly, balding & bearded giant of a guy with piercing blue eyes and a heart as big as Texas. He also has an earlobe with 2 or 3 small, subtle golden rings that perforate his ear. I secretly think they look rather nice but I don’t share that with The Boy, who needs no encouragement to keep the earring dialogue going.

It was during a 4-day road trip with The Boy, three Februarys ago that The Captain had occasion to share a story with him while driving. I wasn’t actually in the car as it was told, so forgive my creative license as I re-tell it, but it went something like this:

“Boy, do you know why sailors wear gold earrings in their ears?”

“No, Sir. I don’t.“

“Well, back in the day when ships were a primary means of travel, a sailor might be out to sea for long periods of time. While on the water and with medicine being what it was back then, there were many, many ways by which a man could grow sick and die. It was a true state of affairs albeit unfortunate, that if a sailor were to die mid-voyage, he literally went from being part of a mighty ship’s crew to becoming, “dead weight” that burdened the ship more even as the crew was now one man short. His corpse essentially became rotting cargo. It was a common practice therefore, to dispose of a dead sailor by the way of Davy Jones’ Locker if you know what I mean.”

“Yes, Sir. He was tossed overboard.”

“That’s right he was given a sea burial and tossed right off the side, left to the wake of the boat and to the appetites of the predators below- that is, unless he was carrying the money to pay his passage back home so that his loved ones and family could give him a proper burial.”

“Yes Sir. Having money would be good for that.” (I can imagine the Boy getting nervous about where this conversation is going, considering his job during the summer. I know I would have been!)

“So you see, it was for this very reason- as an insurance policy, that sailors began to place gold rings through their earlobes- to be removed only upon their death as payment for passage home.”

I’ve since learned that depending on how far a man was sailing, or in which hemisphere he voyaged, he would have 1, 2 or 3 rings in his ear- all related to the cost of going home. Today’s mariners therefore, wear earrings as a reminder that they belong somewhere and intend to return there.

And with the conclusion of the story, The Captain who knew that The Colonel was not cool with his teenage son piercing a perfectly good ear reached into his pocket and pulled out a small gold coin. On one side was a sea turtle, and the other, a crown. It was a 50 dollar gold piece from the British Virgin Islands that at one time had been real currency. He handed the gold coin to The Boy and told him, “This is for you to keep so that you can always find your way home.”

The timing of all of this was significant in that The Boy would be graduating in a few months, then off to sail the Caribbean with The Captain as usual. From there he was starting his freshman year of college in a state that was completely new to him. He knew that while he was down island that summer, I would be placing his childhood home on the market, locking the door one last time and joining The Colonel across the country. We had just purchased a new home and he was joining a civilian practice. It was all an awful lot for one Boy to bear.

I’ll never forget him telling me the story about the coin because he was standing in the bare living room of that new place with tears in his eyes as he opened up a clenched fist and showed it to me. The Captain had taken a 10 hour detour in a snow storm during that road trip just to allow The Boy to see the new place with his own eyes before going back to finish high school and start his new life away from any home he’s ever had. I melted.

I love the history behind the story of the sailors and their earrings. I love the depth of compassion and timing behind the actions of The Captain. I love that now at almost 20-years old, The Boy still keeps that gold coin close; wearing it on a signet ring we had custom made for him for his high school graduation.  I also love that I am reminded of this story every single time I cruise past one of my favorite, heavily highlighted passages in the Psalm 19:

9 “The fear of the LORD is pure,
   enduring forever.
The decrees of the LORD are firm,
and all of them are righteous.

10 They are more precious than gold,
   than much pure gold; …”

It was probably because of this short passage 32 years ago that I realized in a life-changing way, that the passage home for believers is found only through a pure and lasting relationship with The Divine. That in this climate of waffling faith and watered down belief systems, it is the Word of a Holy God that stands firm and unmoved amidst the ebb and flow of society’s shifting value system. It is His righteousness that we cling to in the midst of storms and it is an incessant desire to reflect with our lives and our hearts the truths we find in His Word that anchors our lives to Him and paves our way home. And indeed, the psalmist reminded me that night in my room alone and through no uncertain terms, that these things are more precious than the purest of gold.

Like most things about God that confound man, it’s easy to look around us and see examples of the abandonment of Truth in pursuit of riches or worldly treasures. How silly of us, when we already know that it is the truth of God that is the most valuable of all things within our grasp. It is this truth, and this truth only that ensures our passage home.

Every morning since the day my son shared that story, as I stand before the bathroom mirror and carefully put on my earrings, I have taken a moment to thank God for that precious price he paid on our behalf. I have committed myself to being more mindful of His holiness and more appreciative of the strength of His Word in my life. I’m not perfect- I’m certainly not worthy…but somehow this morning ritual has lent itself to fortifying the things upon which I have come to most heavily rely.

And I pray that my son will continue to do the same as he periodically removes the new, bright ring that now hangs discreetly, just out of sight, beneath his messy mop of sun-bleached, blonde hair. It sits there in the cartilage of his right ear in homage to the ocean habitat he loves, the Captain he adores and the rad God he is learning to serve.

Inexcusable

When I read this I did not like it!
Not because I dislike God forgiving me, but rather because I fall so short in forgiving others.

Through the years we all have been hurt by people. The list varies for all of us.

We may have experienced

Abuse, alcoholism, affairs, anger, abandoned
Beatings, backstabbing, belittling
Cruelty, cheating, coldness
Divorce, death, denials
Emptiness, envy
Failures, foolishness, fighting
Gossip,
Hidden agendas, hopes dashed

I could go on and on.

I am right there with you. Even after I have asked for God to help me to forgive someone, that intense feeling still remains. I have cried out to God more times than anyone knows, "What they have done is inexcusable"!

Gently, softly I hear His voice, "forgive, as I have forgiven you." Colossians 3:13 So I try again to forgive and move on. This is not easy for me and has taken so long to see any growth in.

Just the other day I drove by a place that usually filled me with anger. This day, this wonderful day, I felt nothing! Oh the joy of freedom from that hold on me!

On the other hand, I am still struggling with one particular hurt! This time when I cry out that their behavior is inexcusable I hear His voice saying to me "Let it go, my grace is sufficient". II Corinthians 12:9

I am selfish! His grace is sufficient, but I have not wanted to extend that grace to others. I am the one who has acted in an inexcusable way!

Father, you have been so gracious and patient with me. Forgive me for being ungrateful! Change my inexcusable behavior and attitude. Fill me to overflowing with your grace and forgiveness that is extended to others. Thank you for your freedom that you grace gives. Jann

The Lord is my light

Woohoo! It is 41 degrees on a normally freezing January day in Michigan.

All the way home I can think of only one thing, sunshine! I crave the warmth of it. I crave the way my skin feels as it slowly warms to the embrace of it.

When will I be in the sun's presence?

I greet my husband, but really I want the sun. There is a patch of sunlight pouring through the door that leads to the deck and my dog is lying in it. I grab my pillow and lay down next to Spunky in the sun-lighted spot. She know the importance of this moment, almost sacred moment and lies still beside me.

No, I am not crazy, but when you have been without the sun, you begin to crave it, need it, start dreaming about it. When you experience it you are satisfied.

 God is my light.

He is precious and fills me with inexpressible joy.

His Spirit fills me with the warmth of his love.

I crave sacred time with Him.
When I spend the time to sit in His presence, in His word, delighting in the Sonlight, I am satisfied.

Psalm 23: 1 The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul.

Psalm 4:4 Meditate with in your heart on your bed and be still.

Psalm 37: 7 Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him.

Grab a pillow and join me in the Son!
